Mobile Home Insurance Coverage

Manufactured and mobile home insurance coverage can seem difficult to obtain. A lot of companies have chosen not to cover these types of dwellings, or they do so with stipulations such as higher premiums. This will mean that the task is left up to the homeowner or future homeowner seeking the coverage, but it’s not impossible. The process will take a lot of legwork and organization, but in the end the coverage should be top-notch for the lowest price. If it’s not your first time buying insurance than there won’t be much difference from the previous policy that was purchased.
There are multiple reasons why a provider may charge more money for manufactured and mobile home insurance coverage. Some of these reasons could be due to the location, structure foundation, and weather patterns. High risk areas for natural disasters can cause the price of insurance to go up, or it can require the homeowner to purchase more insurance. This is why it’s extremely important to ask about the company’s policy regarding manufactured or mobile homes upfront as well as if they will allow improvements to be made to lower the cost. If so than it’s more likely that they can offer an insurance policy, and in some instances they might offer other discounts too.
It’s equally important to understand what each policy entails as far as the type or amount of coverage it offers. The two major policies are comprehensive and selective coverage. A comprehensive policy will cover your entire home and it’s contents. Some types will include the manufactured or mobile home too. Selective coverage will cover damage from some types of major catastrophes but not all. For example if the home in question will be in a high risk area for flooding or earthquakes it’s important to make sure a policy that covers flood and quake damage is chosen. If the homeowner doesn’t purchase it than the home will not be covered.
The homeowner or future homeowner can begin searching for the perfect homeowners insurance policy by checking with his or her auto insurance company first. This is generally the best place to begin because most insurance providers will give discounts for holding multiple policies with them. Make sure to ask if there are other discounts available depending upon your location, foundation or other upgrades to the home. It never hurts to ask questions, but make sure to do it prior to choosing your policy.
If the auto company says “Yes” to homeowners insurance, don’t stop there. Make sure to shop around a bit to make sure the best price and coverage is obtained. Find other companies by asking around to friends, co-workers, family or neighbors that also reside in a manufactured or mobile home. Ask them who they have insurance with, if they’re happy with the company, have there been any problems or issues with their policy, how much they’re currently paying, and what type of coverage they chose.
Once enough contacts have been obtained it’s time to start calling up the companies. Much like the auto insurance company, it’s a good idea to ask questions about their available policies. It also wouldn’t hurt to ask them about discounts when combining services as it’s possible that moving auto insurance to the new company could equal up some decent sized savings.
Finally make sure to read all of the fine print before signing the documents for your manufactured or mobile home insurance coverage policy. If any questions arise be sure to ask them prior to signing. This can’t be stressed enough since the last thing a homeowner wants is to be stuck with a policy that won’t properly cover their home in case of a disaster or accident.
