  • Turn the lights out! This seems very simple, but is one main reason for your electricity bill being so high. It is so easy to forget to turn the lights off in your house when you leave, but if you make an effort to turn them off you will begin to see a difference. When leaving the house, get in the habit of going through every room and turning the lights off. Also, even when you are home, make sure the lights are out in rooms you aren’t using.
  • Turn off electronics when you aren’t using them. Make sure you always turn off computers, T.V.’s, DVD players, X-Boxes, etc. when you are done using them. I have noticed that sometimes after i watch a movie i will leave the DVD player on, and sometimes it will be on for days before i remember to turn it off. These are things that can be on for a long time without you even knowing they are on. Make sure you always turn them off and this will help keep your bill down.
  • Use a compact fluorescent light bulbs. These light bulbs last longer and use a lot less electricity. You might not see a huge difference in your monthly bills by using these, but you will definitely notice a difference in your yearly bills. As an extra bonus for using energy saving light bulbs, they are better for the environment. So by using these you will not only save money, but you will be helping the environment out as well.
  • Cut down use of electronics. If you are spending hours and hours watching TV, or playing video games, your bill will likely be much higher. If you want to save money you might try using those things less. You might take to reading, board games, going on walks, or maybe a new hobby that involves the outdoors. This might be a little difficult, especially if you are a homebody, but if you are serious about saving money on your electricity bill, you might consider this.
